UK-based Connected Energy and Groupe Renault have installed two quick-charge stations based on Connected Energy’s E-STOR energy storage technology on highways in Belgium and Germany. With the E-STOR system, the batteries are recharged at low power, and the stored energy is then released at high power.

Among its numerous debuts at Busworld Europe in Belgium, Daimler Buses took the wraps off the new Citaro hybrid urban bus. The electric power generated by recuperation is stored in a bank of supercapacitors. Braking to a stop from a speed of 50 km/h just once is enough to recharge the power storage units in the Citaro hybrid.

Vehicle to Grid (V2G) is one approach being taken, where stored energy from the electric vehicles is used to power the grid during peak hours, and then the vehicles are recharged during non-peak times. In fact, EDF is targeting a 30 percent market share for EV charging in France, Belgium, Italy, and the UK.
