Indeed, it’s hard to recharge or power a device when the air gap is just a few centimeters, much less a few meters. Wires have a lot going for them when it comes to moving electric power around, but they have their drawbacks too.

For $50k you can get a Tesla sedan which will get hundreds of miles strictly on electric. You lose the flexibility of the hybrid being able to fuel up nearly instantaneously at a gas station, and pay an additional $10k for that loss.
