But Nissan has the litium ion battery and tons of desirable, very cool features ready for prime time right here and right now. This is a move that GM, Ford and whatever’s left of Chrysler should have made, but it’s too creative, too bold and too American for any of those legacy car companies to pull off in the 21st century.

We bleated away like blind sheep, buying Ford EcoSports at twice the rate we did Souls in 2019, the last year it was sold in Australia. There’s a 64kWh battery and single 150kW/395Nm motor driving the front wheels. The UK also sells an entry level Soul with 39.2kWh battery, 100kW/395Nm motor and range of 275km.

If the early arrival of the yet-to-be-named electric ute has the sort of impact the fledgling brand has had on other segments then it could be a wake-up to the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger that dominate ute sales in Australia.

An (expected) high price tag. If you want it to perform like a sports car instead of a slug in a sportscars skin, youre going to need that 10k for the ac drive system alone, and then maybe another 15k for a lithium battery pack. I also think it will be cheap, which is why I think someone will buy the group. Small size.
