How does this sound: 100+ MPG in a regular vehicle? CA, NY, MA and other states have had Zero-Emission Vehicle programs since the early 1990s because battery electric vehicles in those states, taking into account power plants, are far cleaner than gasoline cars in reducing urban air pollution and smog. GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. Batteries not ready. Hyundai Partnering with Korean battery companies for hybrids. 2010 Prius designed to be manufactured with NiMH or Lithium batteries.

As more renewables come online, battery electrics just keep getting cleaner and greener.
