In the case of NASCAR’s Grant Park 220, there were a lot of firsts. And the sights and sounds of NASCAR stockers blasting around Grant Park and the Loop, sometimes fishtailing through corners (even when the pavement was dry), seemed quite worth any inconvenience. There’s always a first for everything. But NASCAR was new this year.

Like the Recovery Act-funded projects, the annual Clean Cities projects include grants for vehicles, infrastructure, and education. The project will result in expanded availability of alternative fuels with 17 new CNG and E85 fueling stations and 63 electric vehicle charging stations. Total DOE award: $14,999,658.

In July, the DOE announced that ARPA-E had received approximately 3,500 submissions for the approximately $150 million available as part of the first Funding Opportunity Announcement (DE-FOA-0000065) released 27 April 2009.
