Availability of the Focus Electric will expand in 2012 to the remaining 15 launch markets as production ramps up. Production is moving from a supplier in Japan to the Van Dyke Transmission Plant in Sterling Heights, Mich.,

The i-MiEV is based on Mitsubishis i line of micro-cars which are quite popular in Japan. In drive the full power of the batteries is available to give the car plenty of go off the line. In Eco (economy) the motor output is limited to about 45bhp reducing the current flow from the batteries and extending range.
