By 2003, all buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws in Delhi were retrofitted to run on CNG; only new vehicles with CNG engines are now available. (Of Of the four-stroke vehicles, a subset also has functioning backup gasoline fuel systems.) There are an estimated 3 million auto-rickshaws in India, around two-thirds of the world total.
