BYD sold 98% of its hybrid cars at home last year, and eight of the 10 top-selling plug-in hybrid cars in China, according to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. It exported only a small number of the Song, Qin Plus and Destroyer 05 PHEV models, which use the pouch batteries, to markets such as Brazil.

However, details by powertrain highlights that only pure electric cars (BEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV) drove this growth, as hybrids posted a decline of 11%. Demand in Latin America fell by 30% to 318,000 units, following restrictions in Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru, and more recently Brazil and Mexico.
