GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. BYD also developed the motors and software for the system. This is unusual.

Toyota Prius modders have already been adding larger batteries so the vehicle can run on battery power. they didnt consider the fact that China was a nation with a appetite that would have well made the EV1 a profitable venture even if the cars tragically lasted longer, and cost less to build and maintain. Never again.
