BMW continues to preview its next-generation EVs with a new concept car, while also providing a bit more detail on some of the engineering for these new models, which are due to start production next year. The combination of cylindrical cells and the 800-volt shift will speed up charging by up to 30%, BMW claims.

And with the revival of the EV, the V2G concept was reborn. Once electricity is generated and passes into the grid, it is typically used almost immediately.

Electric cars and a smart electric grid have a bright future, according to panelists at a roundtable discussion on the subject that I attended last Friday in Boston. He envisioned “hundreds of thousands” of charging spots, as well as a number of stations where drained batteries could be exchanged for fresh ones.
