A family of brutal 4x4s including a Toyota LandCruiser rival along with a radical supercar have been added to Chinese electrified mega-brand BYD’s rapidly expanding new vehicle armoury and are wanted in Australia. The new models were previewed this week by BYD subsidiary Fang Cheng Bao – or Leopard – ahead of the Beijing show.

Alfa Romeo Tonale – the Italian brand finally has a rechargeable car in its ranks in the form of the Tonale PHEV compact SUV. Aston Martin DBX PHEV and EV – electrified versions of AM’s first SUV on the cards. No surprises there are promises of big performance for a PHEV due late in 2022 or early 2023.

The Tesla Model Y now has a direct rival from Chinese challenger BYD. Teased only days ahead of its reveal , the Sea Lion 07 joins the Song L fastback coupe SUV launched in October and a whole group of other BYD models including the locally available Dolphin , Atto 3 and Seal by being based on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 architecture.
