As an extreme example (because of the very large battery pack), Lux notes that on Tesla Model S, a 20% power savings could result in gains of more than $6,000 in battery cost—8% of the vehicles cost. However, for plug-in electric vehicles (PHEVs), the threshold power savings needs to be a higher 5%.
