Zipcar is launching the Zipvan service in Seattle, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Portland, Oregon today, and will roll out the service to its remaining metro markets in North America over the next 12 months. Zipvan started in London and today accounts for more than 10% of Zipcar’s UK operation.

Navigant’s analysis indicates that only buyers in California and Oregon will purchase sufficient numbers of vehicles in order to meet the ZEV requirement in 2018 and 2019. Tesla is also readying the Model X, a more affordable crossover for launch by the end of 2014. By 2022, not even California will meet the 10% ZEV requirement.

In the last 6 months alone, the United Kingdom, California, New Jersey, Quebec, and Massachusetts have announced a ban on the sale of internal combustion vehicles within their borders by 2035.

Mitsubishi is positioning the North American i-MiEV electric vehicle as the most affordably-priced mass-produced EV available in the US.
