The new detector was constructed while the collider was shut down from 2018 to 2021. The plant will replace an existing coal-fired plant and generate hydrogen—which can be used in fuel cells—using solar photovoltaics. Highview Power has said it plans to build a similar plant in Vermont, although it has not specified a timeline yet.
