The combustion engine is based on the DTM unit used in the BMW M4 DTM in 2017 and 2018. The normally-aspirated P66/1 eight-cylinder engine used in the 2017 and 2018 seasons in the BMW M4 DTM was the one that got the nod. The two drive components were connected in the car for the first time at the end of June.

The Federal and state governments also expect the manufacturers to use self-financed competitive measures to provide incentives for the change of pre-Euro-5 diesel vehicles to vehicles with the latest exhaust gas aftertreatment or electric vehicles. The German KBA will also test exhaust emissions even with approved vehicles.
