The Prius Prime plug-in hybrid, unveiled at the 2016 New York International Auto Show in March ( earlier post ), features a larger 8.8 In hybrid mode, the Prius Prime exceeds all competitors’ fuel economy ratings with EPA-estimated 55 city/53 highway/54 combined MPG. 1, yet runs on regular-grade gasoline.

Toyota unveiled the new Prius Prime plug-in hybrid (PHEV) at the 2016 New York International Auto Show. Toyota expects the Prius Prime’s manufacturer-estimated 120 or above MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) to be the highest MPGe rating of any current plug-in hybrid.

The other that was interesting from this data, is that is shows that PHEV customers are not unique. PHEV customers aren’t self-selecting themselves. They are just getting in their car, they are taking advantage of having a PHEV vehicle, and they are driving wherever they like. Ford PHEV sales up strongly in 2016.
