The US Department of Energy (DOE) has selected two projects that will test emerging enhanced water recovery (EWR) technologies for their potential to produce useable water from CO 2 storage sites. The two projects were competitively selected from the five Brine Extraction Storage Test (BEST) projects awarded in September 2015.

TCEP will begin delivering CO 2 to Whiting when the plant commences operations in late 2014 or early 2015; construction is scheduled to begin at the end of this year. In oil fields such as Whiting’s, the injected CO 2 mixes with the oil that is left behind in the primary oil-well production and the secondary water-injection stage.
