BMW X5 FCEV – hydrogen-powered version of large SUV is a pilot program for now, but expect things to grow. General Motor eCrate conversion kits – by late 2021 GM plans to offer battery and motor kits for classic cars, allowing an easy EV conversion. It could kick off with a sleek electric ute.

In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. First Escape PHEV delivered to SCE Nov 2007; 20 in 2008-2009. Continues promotion and development of hydrogen as long-term strategy. Company says its focusing on gasoline and hydrogen. Batteries not ready. Has shown some concept fuel-cell PHEVs.

Volt like hybrids are the intermediate future between hydrogen or fast charging electric cars. If you build a car as a "kit car" with no real factory, then yes, it will never be an economic success. So I think its a safe bet for GM. assuming electric cars actually have a future. The EV1s failure was a failure of Management.
