Total sales worldwide in 2008 were 2 million vehicles. Outside of North America, 2008 was the second-best sales year in the last decade and the third-best ever for Chrysler International. In 2008, the Foundation gave approximately $21 million in charitable donations.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. First Escape PHEV delivered to SCE Nov 2007; 20 in 2008-2009. Batteries not ready.

Revenues, which have grown by about 45% annually during the past five years, reached $4 billion in 2008. He was paid about $265,000 in 2008, and he lives in a BYD-owned apartment complex with other engineers. Each of BYDs business units - batteries, mobile-phone components, and autos - was profitable in 2008, albeit on a small scale.
