Freescale Semiconductor is providing advanced microcontroller (MCU) technology to Chery Automobile, one of China’s largest automotive manufacturers, for the engine control unit (ECU) in future Chery vehicle models. Chery selected Freescale’s Qorivva 32-bit MPC563x MCU family for its high performance, reliability and scalability.

China’s Global Times newspaper reports that the China government is considering requiring new passenger car vehicles (PCVs) to be equipped with belt-starter-generator (BSG) systems for fuel efficiency, according to General Manager of Chery New Energy Company, Yuan Tao. Such microhybrid systems could save about 5% on fuel.
