While all van manufacturers respected their specific emission targets in 2017, three car manufacturers (Automobili Lamborghini, Mazda Motor Corporation and Société des Automobiles Alpine), representing together 1.4% BMW AG, Renault, Daimler AG, Volkswagen together sell more than 50% of the new electric vehicles in the market.

A focus on tailpipe CO2 emissions has distracted away from the impact of car production, suggests Professor Frank Figge who co-authored the ‘Sustainable Value in Automobile Manufacturing’ study. It is the first value-based method for assessing corporate sustainability performance. There is a mixed picture among European manufacturers.
