In 2005, their sales increased even further, accounting for approximately 54% of all new car sales. Before the introduction of the flex-fuel car in Brazil in 2003, cars running on ethanol fuel were primarily using pure ethanol or hydrous ethanol blends. The water contained in hydrous ethanol blends also reduces NO x emissions.
