European Commission fines truck producers record €2.93B for colluding to pass on emission compliance costs

The European Commission found that truck makers MAN, Volvo/Renault, Daimler, Iveco, and DAF broke EU antitrust rules by colluding for 14 years on truck pricing and on passing on the costs of compliance with stricter emission rules. This was complemented by phone conversations.

NTSB recommends nationwide ban on personal electronic devices while driving; also calls for modifications to the equipment and the completion of a NHTSA rulemaking on collision warning systems

NTSB also recommended that NHTSA complete rulemaking on adaptive cruise control and collision warning system performance standards for new passenger cars. At a minimum, these standards should address obstacle detection distance, timing of alerts, and human factors guidelines, such as the mode and type of warning. —NTSB synopsis.
