The car’s announcement coincides with the 20th anniversary of Cadillac’s V-Series, which debuted at Sebring in 2004 with the CTS-V. Cadillac has since created several performance cars, including the most recent and most rowdy, the Escalade-V. Cadillac currently sells two EVs, the Lyriq SUV and the Celestiq sedan.

Cadillac gave a sneak peek of “the future of electric performance,” teasing its new Opulent Velocity EV concept. The automaker just lifted the Chevy Blazer EV stop-sale last week after nearly three months due to software issues. The concept represents the Cadillac brand in its the name itself: Opulent + Velocity.

GM began producing cars on its J Platform beginning in 1981 , and the J-Body proved to be a tremendous global sales success for The General. In the United States, the introductory J Family models for the 1982 model year were the Chevrolet Cavalier , Pontiac J2000 , Oldsmobile Firenza , Buick Skyhawk and Cadillac Cimarron.

With more new models, the expansion of its local manufacturing capability and a growing dealer network, GM expects to increase Cadillac sales from 30,000 units last year to 100,000 units in 2015. Created from the old GM’s strongest operations in an asset sale approved by the Federal bankruptcy court on 5 July ( earlier post ), the new GM is built on four core brands: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC. The four brands will offer a total of 34 nameplates by 2010, compared to old GM’s total of 48 in 2008 and 63 in 2004.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. Several dozen prototypes on 15-passenger van since 2004; now in second generation development; no production plans. todays answer is "Yes -- but not yet."
