EPA fuel economy report finds weight and power leveling off, footprint stable

Since MY 2004, CO 2 emissions and fuel economy have improved in ten out of twelve years, and decreased only twice. The average weight for new vehicles produced in MY 2016 was 4,035 pounds (1,830 kg), which was unchanged from MY 2015 although the weight of an average new car fell by 23 pounds (10.4 mpg per year. ft 2 (-0.4%).
