Third-party and DIY converters can't muck with every system on a car. UPDATE: Felix Kramer of Calcars informs me that the vacuum bottle is standard on 2004-2008 Prius.) Third party converters have spent time and resources tweaking their plug-in hybrids to meet ARB testing written with gasoline-only hybrids in mind.

At these prices, people are buying the "environmental feature" -- they want to be among the first owners of the worlds cleanest extended-range vehicles. They are early adopters, buying "Version 1.0" The easiest conversions are for 2004-2008 Prius (not 2001-2003 Prius) and the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner Hybrid.

In 2021, the IMU units you could buy off the shelf were pretty inexpensive and reliable. We bought a booth at the first RoboNexus trade show held in San Jose in 2004. At this point it was 2008, and AMPbot was scheduled for release in early 2009, but that was not to be.
