Currently, there’s an ongoing debate about the future of the electric vehicle, which Hyundai condensed into two approaches: Store more electricity on-board using more/larger batteries. The energy is stored in a 24 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery, jointly developed with LG Chemical. Hyundai is taking the second approach.

GM will leapfrog Toyota and Honda by providing an electric car to the masses by the end of next year. The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. The car is expected to cost around $40,000.
