A new survey shows that prospective electric vehicle buyers are considering Tesla over any other brand as more buyers consider electrified options due to soaring gas prices. According to Kelley Blue Book , 25% of new car buyers considered an EV in January, February, and March 2022. Gas prices have risen to $4.50

One of the top hurdles to EV adoption in the US is the often touted issue that EVs simply cost more than similar gas-powered vehicles. Nine of these EVs have a base MSRP of less than $35,000 and another nine would have a net effective price below $30,000 when factoring in the applicable federal EV tax credit.

The Tesla Model 3 was recently deemed by Kelley Blue Book as one of the winners in its 5-Year Cost to Own Awards for 2022. This includes the vehicle’s price, maintenance costs, fuel or charging rates, any state tax, and registration fees, as well as a car’s depreciation over a 5-year ownership period, among others.

While alternative powertrains still represent a small percentage of market share compared to gasoline engines, the report noted, clean diesels saw a 10% increase in 2014 sales over 2013 sales, while hybrids saw a 10% decrease, pure electrics saw a 20% increase and compressed natural gas saw a 33% decrease.
