Trucks and the irrelevance of hybrid and electric cars
The most important vehicle in America? In February, Ford sold almost 33,000 Ford F Series trucks, making it the top selling vehicle in America, by far. Nonetheless, while the bread and butter of the Big 3, the 17 mpg all-American truck is killing America. Of the top 3 selling vehicles, 2 were trucks. Inevitably, day after day, month after month, year after year, and decade after decade, large trucks dominate the top of US auto sales.

America's only hope for energy independence?
Most these days claim fuel cells are a dream, but are America's plans for energy independence or serious reductions in global warming emissions any less of a dream? More important, however, what are the chances of selling such a gas tax to America, or a robust enough cap and trade plan? Certainly, the key might not be fuel cell hybrids; however, can anything other than a major technological breakthrough - a dream Only fuel cell hybrids can save us? Study after study demonstrates the fickleness of consumers towards embracing hybrid cars , especially plug-in versions.

The student team from Laval University (Quebec, Canada) took the grand prize in the “Prototype” category at the 2009 Shell Eco-Marathon Americas , held 15-18 April at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA, with 2,757.1 The 44 teams were from six high schools and 29 universities from North and South America, including Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the United States. miles per gallon (0.085 L/100km). The team from Mater Dei High School (Evansville, Ind.)

EPA, CARB certify Volvo Trucks North America’s Near-Zero Emissions Diesel Engines for 2010
Volvo Trucks North America’s D11 and D13 engines have been certified by the US Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board as meeting upcoming 2010 diesel emissions standards, the most stringent in the world.
Volvo is the first truck manufacturer to have its heavy-duty diesel engines certified for 2010 by both EPA and CARB. These engines have been fully certified to meet EPA’s stringent standards without the use of emissions credits.

Co-op America has cut through the hype and hyperbole about "clean" cars. AFC and University of Witwatersrand Sign Exclusive Agreement to Commercialize Fischer-Tropsch Fuels and Chemical Feedstocks in the Americas
The agreement grants AFC exclusive rights to market the Wits conversion technology in the Americas. Alternative Fuels Corporation (AFC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of G4G Resources Ltd. and the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa (Wits) signed an exclusive representation agreement to commercialize the Fischer-Tropsch-based fuel and chemical production process developed by the Centre of Materials and Process Synthesis (COMPS) located at The University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Ford: America's greenest automaker
First to hybrid SUVs Out of 500 companies, Newsweek has picked Ford Motor Company as the 108th most green company in America. A representative from Ford told me that Ford was picked as the sole US automaker in this green list "for its improvements of fuel efficiency to its vehicles and by also having successful programs in place for recycling, water conservation, and GHG emissions reduction."

Plug In America Challenges Obama Auto Task Force Conclusion on GM Volt, Proposes Reduction in Warranty Terms to Reduce Manufacturer Cost
In response to the Presidential Auto Task Force Report that concluded that the plug-in Chevrolet Volt was unlikely to be commercially successful in the short-term due to its cost ( earlier post ), Plug In America is proposing a plan to make GM’s Chevy Volt and other plug-in cars more affordable. Plug In America also noted that most advanced new technologies are initially more costly.
California law requires that the Volt and other plug-in hybrids come with a 10-year warranty. To ensure this longer life, automakers are as much as doubling the size of the battery pack, increasing
