But the mass market was confused; these new cars had an additional battery to provide electricity to an electric motor.

Volvo Cars reported retail sales of 45,952 cars in May, down 28.3% In May the share of fully electric cars grew to 7.9% (3,652 units), up from 3.7% (2,399 units out of 64,111). Sales of Recharge models (plug-in hybrid and fully electric) represented 33.6% Plug-in hybrid. Fully electric.

Audi will not extend its commitment in the DTM touring car racing series beyond the 2020 season. The brand has been represented in Formula E ever since the popular fully electric racing series was started in 2014. Off the race track, Audi is planning to generate about 40% of its sales with electric cars and plug-in-hybrids by 2025.

With stellar sales of the Chevrolet Volt last month, we haven't heard quite as much of the silly "electric cars are a sales failure" meme lately. After their first full year of sales, each of the two modern plug-in electric cars on sale during 2011 outsold the Toyota Prius hybrid in 2000, its first year on the market.

The European car market registered its seventh consecutive month of decline in March 2019, according to figures from JATO Dynamics. March marked the first time that registrations of electrified cars (BEV, PHEV, HEV) exceeded the 100,000 units mark, with a total of 125,400. At the same time, diesel cars continued to lose ground.
