A plug-in Toyota Prius for less than a regular Prius?
Now, I’m not saying that’s going to happen, but according to the MotorTrend article, the lithium-ion battery pack in the plug-in Toyota Prius actually costs less than the NiMH battery pack in the conventional Prius. kwh of battery, wouldn’t lithium be much cheaper than NiMH at $800 for 1.3 Good for just 70 mpg?

Hybrid crazy China: Supply and demand manipulation?
Several years ago Ford claimed many more hybrid cars could have been sold, if not for Toyota’s stranglehold on NiMH battery supplies. That might not be as relevant as with NiMH batteries, but it could still be an important key to early success. First currency manipulation, now plug-in supply manipulation? Just EVs?

Toyota Hybrid Breakthrough! One-mile EV Range Highlander Hybrid!
Mistakenly blaming the battery type (NiMH) for the meager all-electric performance, AutoBlogGreen remains as confused as most auto journalists about plugs and cars, plug-in hybrids, electric cars, and batteries. The 24 NiMH batteries in my Toyota RAV4 EV take the car 120 miles without gasoline. Would a Lithium-ion battery be better?

NiMH hybrids a long way from dead
Still the battery of choice for hybrids Over the weekend it was reported that Sanyo will supply enough NiMH batteries for several tens of thousands of Peugeot hybrid vehicles per year beginning in 2011. For years, Ford has complained about a shortage of NiMH batteries.

Sanyo To Supply NiMH Batteries to Peugeot
The Nikkei is reporting that Sanyo Electric Co. has signed an agreement with PSA Peugeot Citroen to supply nickel-metal hydride batteries for diesel-electric hybrids. Peugeot wants to be the first car maker to put diesel-electric powertrains into production vehicles. The French auto company will use the batteries in the 2011 Peugeot 3008 SUV

Toyota Sticking With NiMH for Strong Hybrids in Near Term
