Beijing Hoping for 15,000 Electric Vehicles in Operation This Year

Bright Automotives Plug-in IDEA Debuts on Tuesday
Bright Automotive will unveil its IDEA plug-in hybrid concept on Tuesday in Washington, DC. Bright will then take the IDEA will to Norway in May 2009 for the Electric Vehicle Symposium (EVS24). The IDEA is designed to operate in all-electric mode for the first 30 miles before switching to hybrid mode for a full range of 400 miles.
Bright Automotive launched in January 2008 from Colorado-based Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) with the goal of building on the work of a consortium of organizations, including Alcoa, Google.org, Johnson Controls and the Turner Foundation.

Survey Finds 47% of American Reject Idea That They Are Selfish for Putting Economy Ahead of Global Warming
A new Rasmussen Reports poll found that 47% of Americans reject the idea that they are selfish putting economic concerns ahead of the fight against global warming. The national telephone survey found that 29% of adults take the opposite view and believe Americans are being selfish for putting the economy first; 24% are not sure.

VW to benefit from a Bright IDEA
The company, which unveiled its IDEA concept series plug-in hybrid light commercial van in May, will now convert VW Transporter vans using the series hybrid Bright powertrain. This will provide a bridge between the concept and the production version of the IDEA.
According to Lyle Shuey, Bright’s vice president of marketing and sales, the converted Transporters are not as efficient as the purpose-built Bright Automotive may only be considered a start-up company, but it is about to have a significant impact on one of the most important car manufacturers in the world - Volkswagen.
