Zoox also operates retrofitted self-driving Toyota Highlanders in Seattle, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Foster City, California. It also expanded the Las Vegas area in which the cars can travel to five miles from one mile, it said in a statement.

Zoox will deploy its retrofitted Toyota Highlander test fleet in small areas near the business and entertainment districts of the two cities, it said in a statement. Austin and Miami will mark the fourth and fifth public testing locations for Zoox, having already established operations in San Francisco, Las Vegas and Seattle.

The NHTSA on Monday opened a similar inquest into Amazon-owned Zoox after receiving two reports that the company’s autonomously-operated Toyota Highlanders were rear-ended after they pulled on the brakes too quickly. Zoox has been testing its robotaxis in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Foster City, California.
