Ford, Detroit Edison and Xtreme Power are teaming up to establish one of Michigan’s largest solar power generation systems and electric vehicle charging stations at Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Mich. Ford will work with Detroit Edison to install a 500 kW solar photovoltaic panel system at Michigan Assembly.

Lightning Hybrids tested two vehicles: a 2013 Ford E450 6.8-liter Lightning Hybrids’ system functions like other hybrids that add a secondary power source to an existing engine. The essence is to replace a diesel-powered GMC 4500 shuttle with gasoline Ford E450s upfitted with the Lightning Hybrids system.
