The 1987 Sprint ER came in second place, due to its insatiable thirst for go-go juice on the highway (51 miles per gallon). Even though memories of the gas lines and fuel rationing of 1979 were still vivid by 1987, oil prices crashed hard during the middle 1980s, hitting bottom in 1986.
