I really don’t think the industry understands just how popular these cars are going to be. From what I’m reading, there’s a lot of battery production coming on line in the next 12 months in Asia and Europe. Chances are, GM will start with CP (hey, those are Chris Paine’s initials!), and complete the circle.

Currently, there are some industrial facilities that use battery swapping to replenish the energy stores of electric forklifts. Like shopping malls for example, or very nearly any manufacturer or industrial consumer. For extended range I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded.
