In our case it was as, traveling through four states, California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah, having the extended battery made the trip worry-free. All seem perfectly comfortable in the shared experience.

For extended range I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded. Of course, EVs that arent designed for battery swaps wont use it, and plug-in hybrids wont need it.
