Chevrolet next year will introduce the Volt, a plug-in hybrid electric car. Its part of a test before the company starts selling to the public within the next two years.

I wish the thing was for sale as-is. Competition is going to force them to produce a comfortable, usable, extended range EV for that price, and I will just have to wait. Well they did give brief bursts of acceleration through the parking lot to show that it does have some Roadster goodness to it.

The head of Chryslers ENVI division, Lou Rhodes, told AutoblogGreen this morning that Chrysler is marketing this battery-only version of the van to commercial fleet customers who typically have shorter range requirements. The extended-range version will be focused on retail customers.

Vancouvers trolley bus fleet operates at 600 volts and god knows how many amps. For extended range I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded. Im certain that they have customers that make 240 KW look like a 9v battery. Follow us on Twitter!
