The cylinder case is made from an aluminum-silicon alloy using a low-pressure chill casting process that achieves a high standard of homogeneity, according to Audi. From each pair of cylinders, the exhaust ports lead separately to a manifold and the turbocharger housing; they are not combined until immediately ahead of the turbine.
