Estonia has become the world’s first country to launch a nationwide fast-charging network for electric vehicles, using technology provided by ABB. The chargers are installed in urban areas with more than 5,000 inhabitants, and on major roads throughout the country, creating the highest concentration of DC chargers in Europe.

The rapid chargers being deployed will be the first multi-standard units in public operation in Europe. Installation of the rapid chargers is due to be completed by the end of 2014. Estonia was the first country in the world to open a nationwide EV fast-charging network.

The installation of HPC charging stations directly on the major thoroughfares will make electromobility significantly more convenient and the charging capacity of up to 350 kW is expected to reduce the waiting time for customers to a minimum.
