The plug-in hybrid version of the Jeep Wrangler offers useful all-electric range and great electric torque—if drivers plug it in. It was all-new for the 2018 model year, and was engineered from the start to accommodate 2021’s PHEV version. The two couldn’t be more different. The 4xe’s 17.3 kWh battery pack sits under the rear seat.

When the all-electric Kia Niro was introduced in 2019 it followed the 2017 Niro hybrid and then the 2018 Niro plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). Normal is the compromise setting for range and responsiveness, while Sport mode is where a bit more spirited driving is found. Juicing up.

Millions will plug-in their electric vehicles (EV), plug-in hybrids (PHEV) and fuel cell vehicles (FCV) at night when electricity is cheap, then plug-in during the day when energy is expensive and sell those extra electrons at a profit. Millions of EVs and PHEVs would expand the sale of electricity as an alternative to oil.

Nissan is working on an electric car that it says is on track to have a 100-mile range and 26-minute charge time. For on-the-go juice ups, the idea is to exchange your dead battery for a fresh one owned by Better Place. My parents live about 180 miles away, which is well outside the range of most electric cars.
