City of Brighton to Install 20 Elektrobay PEV Charge Points

The city of Brighton UK) plans to install 20 Elektrobay roadside charging stations for plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) over the coming year. As part of a concerted effort to encourage zero-emissions motoring in the city, councilors have given the go ahead to install an initial 10 Elektrobays in Brighton by the end of 2009, with a further 10 planned for installation early next year. The remaining Elektrobays will be installed in two phases.

Elektromotive will complete the installation of its 100th Elektrobay charging station in London by the end of next month. There are already 80 Elektrobays in operation in the Capital, with another 40 installed in various locations across the UK. Usage has led to increased demand for electric vehicle charging stations, resulting in additional roadside Elektrobays being introduced across London.

Pilot schemes will begin almost straightaway, with 20 Elektrobay units to be installed in the country by the end of the year with further rollouts planned in 2010.

Renault-Nissan Alliance and Electromotive to Collaborate on Charging Infrastructure

The Renault-Nissan Alliance and UK company Elektromotive, a provider of electric vehicle recharging stations, are collaborating in the Partnership for Zero-Emission-Mobility, with the aim of accelerating the installation of charging networks for plug-in vehicles in cities. To date, it has installed more than 40 charging bays in London and a further 40 in other major UK cities. When charging is in progress, the door locks shut to prevent interference.
