EEA said that one reason for the increase in car emissions is the growing share of the sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment. The market penetration of electric cars remained slow in 2019. About 38% of new car registrations were SUVs. The average mass of new cars increased by 30 kg from 2018 to 2019.
