Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle technologies are not yet competitive due primarily to the high cost of advanced batteries. Shifted earlier focus to all-electric Focus in 2011 with Magna.

A couple of drawbacks to consider might be the capitalization costs of building these stations and the batteries that they would have to have in stock. For extended range I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded. You could sit in your vehicle while the operation takes place.
