kWh NiMH plug-in hybrid (PHEV) conversion kit that enables all-electric mode driving at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour (until the battery pack is depleted) in a converted Prius. The vehicles and infrastructure being funded include the use of natural and renewable gas, propane, ethanol, biodiesel, electricity, and hybrid technologies. The program includes the installation of 10 alternative fuel refueling sites (two B20, one Electric Recharging, and seven CNG). Total DOE award: $15,000,000.

Audi introduced the battery-electric Audi A3 e-tron US pilot program at TED2012 in Long Beach, California. The power electronics module in the engine compartment converts the battery’s direct current (DC) to alternating current; a DC converter couples the 12-volt electrical system with the high-voltage system.
