It was gloomy when I landed in Los Angeles last week. I am flirting with a cliché here, I know, but the weather seemed to be a metaphor for how the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show media day drove perception of the automotive industry's health. Still, it was a hit among attending media, based on conversations I had.

Both Kia and Hyundai unveiled large SUV concept vehicles with noteworthy features at the show. Nissan concept car.

Several after-market companies have done PHEV conversions of the Ford Escape hybrid and one has done a retrofit of the F-150 pickup -- see Where PHEVs Are and ICE-Conversions.) Hyundai Partnering with Korean battery companies for hybrids. Has shown some concept fuel-cell PHEVs. Doubts PHEVs have environmental benefits.

Hyundai will in months offer 2 models that will leap frog toyota and honda by years - it will be based on a lithium POLYMER battery thats lighter, cheaper, and maintains charge many times longer than NiCad batteries and all at a price half that of Volt. Then they are driving by electric car conversions every day and not seeing them.
