Australia-based Revetec is designing what it calls the Controlled Combustion Engine (CCE)—a cam-drive gasoline spark-ignited internal combustion engine that is smaller, lighter, cleaner, less expensive to manufacture and that produces higher torque due to higher mechanical transfer than equivalent conventional engines.

China’s fourth largest car manufacturer Chongqing Changan Automobile Co and Orbital Corporation Limited have formed a joint development to work on a concept engine. It is hoped that with fuel economy improvements, the Euro IV emission levels will be achieved.

According to its designers, the engine could revolutionise future viability of the internal combustion engine. It is being unveiled as a one litre petrol unit and it is expected to produce around 80 per cent fewer toxins than a typical internal combustion engine.
