TIGAS makes it possible to produce high quality, high value gasoline from natural gas, shale gas, associated gas, coal, pet coke or even biomass. In a 2003 technical review for NREL, Spath and Dayton noted that the process was developed with the idea that future plants would be constructed in remote areas for recovery of low-cost natural gas.
