Many IEEE members credit a parent or a teacher for encouraging them to pursue an engineering career, but for Erol Gelenbe it was his next-door neighbor in his hometown of Ankara, Turkey. After retiring in 2019 from Imperial College London , Gelenbe joined the Polish Academy of Sciences. That was in the late 1950s.
