The i3 and i8 will become the first purpose-built electric and hybrid-electric production vehicles to be made primarily from carbon fiber when they come to market in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Like the Coupe, the BMW i8 Concept Roadster is also built around the LifeDrive architecture, a fusion of independent functional units.
